Landscape 5: Pretty much done

I finally finished the planter-bench. Except for the redwood decking on top it is made entirely from salvaged wood, most of it from the old fence. The short vertical board and batten sides let me use a lot of small redwood scrap that would have otherwise gone to the dump. I put a pond liner on the inside to help keep the wood from rotting. Now we just have to figure out what to plant in it.

Sod laid down in the back, with drip irrigation. Not a lot, just enough to keep things from being too dusty.

I see you! An early requirement from the Mrs was that we have an intercom where we could see who was ringing and be able to buzz them in. We went with a system from Aiphone. The installation was a little tricky, but definitely worth it. Sorry JW's, magazine sellers, high school kids trying to "raise money" to go on a European vacation, we are unavailable at this time.

Up next, a picnic table, a pergola to go over the backyard brick pad, and then a kitchen...

Are the large squares of cement next to the sod and and patio pavers or were they cast after the patio cement? I'm looking to do something VERY similar in our side yard and hoping to avoid bringing in the big cement truck.

Loving the look! Great job.

Thanks! They are pavers.

Really? What size are they and can I ask where you found them?

I've been on the hunt, but have only found the 12 x 12" and 16 x 16".

Yep. They are 30"x30". We got them at South Coast Supply. You can order them as large as 36"x36", although at that size they get really difficult to move around and can even break under their own weight when trying to place them. Our landscapers didn't want to deal with anything bigger than 30"x30", which was the size we wanted anyway.

Oh great - thank you.

This is perfect, I need to give them a call Monday and get some pricing. We may have to make the long trek out there...all our local supply places top out at 18 x 24".

Your place is looking amazing. You've gotten so much done and made great choices. I wish our place was a little more post and beam and less bland mcm masonry oriented. Next house...gotta trade up.

I think you should plant some horsetails like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/naveenjamal/135938785/in/set-72157594176493120/ in your planters. and I totally agree with Laurie - you've done a great job!
